Once you complete the 7 Lessons in the Aromatherapy Certification Program and pass the final exam, you’ll receive your Essential Oil Specialist Certificate. After becoming an Essential Oil Specialist, some students decide to continue on to become a Certified Aromatherapist. This is 100% optional – the choice is yours! Students who wish to become certified will complete the 7 Lessons in the Aromatherapy Certification Program, pass the final exam, and complete a few additional requirements.
Which Option is Right for You?

The core program content is the same, whether you decide to finish after earning your Essential Oil Specialist certificate – or continue on to become a Certified Aromatherapist.

Many of our students are happy with being an Essential Oil Specialist, and don’t need or want the additional certification. Some love the course so much that they decide to continue on right away. Others take a break and come back to get certified later. The choice is yours!

There is no additional cost to become certified – and once you have registered for the ACP, your option to pursue certification never expires.

Meet Your Lead Instructor

Your video lessons and program content will be led by Andrea Butje, author of The Heart of Aromatherapy. Andrea is an internationally-recognized Aromatherapist who is changing the educational paradigm through her inspired approach to teaching + creating community online.

Andrea founded Aromahead Institute in 1998 to help people everywhere learn to use Essential Oils safely and effectively. Thousands of students from more than 100 countries have studied with Aromahead since that time – and many of our alumni have gone on to pursue successful careers and businesses in Aromatherapy and the Healing Arts.

As a consultant to importers of high-quality Essential Oils, Andrea travels the world, building relationships with distillers and small organic farmers. In 2013, Andrea won the Alliance of International Aromatherapists's Lifetime Achievement Award for her heartfelt work in educating and connecting people involved in all aspects of the Aromatherapy industry – from renowned authors and distillers to those who are brand new to Essential Oils.

When she isn’t sharing her love of Aromatherapy with others, you’ll usually find Andrea in her kitchen – cooking, baking and playing with new recipes!

What is an Essential Oil Specialist?

We created this certificate option for our students who are ready to deepen their knowledge of Essential Oils, but for a variety of reasons they don’t feel the need for an official certification. We realized that whether or not you want to get certified, you need the same exact education to be able to help people use Essential Oils safely and effectively to improve their health and well-being. When you become an Essential Oil Specialist, you gain the confidence, credibility, and education you need to share your love of Essential Oils with the world.


What's the benefit of becoming an Essential Oil Specialist?

As Aromatherapy continues to increase in popularity, there’s a growing need for well-educated Aromatherapists. Becoming an Essential Oil Specialist is a great way to dramatically expand your knowledge, and improve your ability to use Essential Oils to help people live healthier lives. It will help you take your work with Essential Oils from a craft or a hobby to a true science and art – with the certificate to prove it!

What’s the difference in becoming an Essential Oil Specialist vs. a Certified Aromatherapist?

The core program content is the same – but you have TWO options for certificates you can earn. Once you complete the 7 Lessons in the Aromatherapy Certification Program and pass the final exam – provided your tuition has been paid in full – you’ll receive your Essential Oil Specialist Certificate. This is a great way to expand your knowledge, gain confidence, and show the world you have the credibility to help people lead healthier lives using Essential Oils.
After becoming an Essential Oil Specialist, some students decide to continue on to become a Certified Aromatherapist. This is 100% optional – the choice is yours! Students who wish to become certified will complete a few additional requirements (20 case studies, an 8-10 page paper and a written exam). You’ll also complete Aromahead’s online Anatomy & Physiology class, which is included in your tuition at no extra cost. Once you’ve successfully met these requirements, you will graduate as a Certified Aromatherapist. There is no additional cost to become certified – and once you have registered for the ACP, your option to pursue certification never expires.

I'm new to Aromatherapy. Is this program right for me?

Yes, this program starts at the very beginning. We provide students with the encouragement, knowledge, experience and guidance you need to succeed.

I've been doing Aromatherapy for years. Will this program be too basic for me?

That depends. If you are not yet familiar with essential oil chemistry, then we definitely recommend you consider the class. Some of the beginning material will likely be familiar, but the more advanced content will be inspiring and bring a new depth to your work with the oils.

Can I enroll anytime?

Yes! Plus, all the online classes at Aromahead are self-paced. You can complete them on your own time, from anywhere in the world that you can log on to the internet.

How long will it take me to complete the program?

It depends! Most students earn their Essential Oil Specialist certificate within a few months, but the program is completely self-paced, which means you can slow it down or move through it more quickly, depending on your learning style and availability. You’ll have permanent unlimited access to your course materials and the Aromahead online forum – as well as any subsequent updates to the course content – even after you’ve completed the program.

Do I need specific supplies in order to participate?

You will need some supplies in order to try the blending exercises in this program. You may use your own supplies or purchase them (supplies are not included in your tuition). Aromatics International has designed some beautiful kits with all the essential oils, carrier oils, and bottles you’ll need. These kits are optional and sold separately through Aromatics International. You may also begin the class without supplies, but over time, you will definitely want to begin gathering a collection of essential oils, carrier and bottles to make blends.

How much support will I get?

Lots of it! The Aromahead team is a dedicated community of educators that are ready to assist you and offer guidance when you need it. All of our teachers are Certified Aromatherapists, and have been in the profession for many years. You’ll have access to Aromahead’s online forum, where you can ask questions, participate in discussions and learn from other Aromatherapists. Plus, you can email us anytime, and your emails will always be answered right away.
